    Updated On: Apr 26, 2021

Thursday, March 18, 2021 – Brooklyn Park and multiple neighboring fire departments responded to several significant incidents the afternoon of March 18, 2021.

    Apartment Fire at 6808 63rd Ave N

At 2:30 p.m., the Brooklyn Park Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a fire on a patio at 6808 63rd Ave N. While en-route, Car 1 requested a second alarm as there was a column of smoke visible approximately 1 mile out. Engine 3 arrived and reported a rapidly growing fire extending to all three balconies of an occupied apartment building. Command was transferred to Car 1. Engine 3 was able to quickly extinguish the bulk of the fire from the exterior. As additional crews arrived, crews made entry into the building to search for any victims and to check for extension. Crews from Brooklyn Park and several mutual aid companies worked for over two hours removing exterior siding to extinguish fire that had extended into the walls. There were no injuries. The American Red Cross was notified to provide assistance to several displaced residents. The fire is currently under investigation by the Brooklyn Park Fire Marshal Division.

Plymouth, Brooklyn Center, West Metro, Maple Grove, Anoka-Champlin, and Osseo Fire Departments were also assigned to this incident. The Brooklyn Park Police Department and North Memorial EMS assisted. The Fridley Fire Department responded to the city to provide fire and EMS coverage.

    Apartment Fire at 7400 72nd Ln N

While crews were en-route to the apartment fire at 6808 63rd Ave N, the Brooklyn Park Fire Department was dispatched at 2:30 p.m. to a report of a fire alarm sounding 7400 72nd. With all crews assigned to the other incident, Chief 1 responded to the alarm. When Chief 1 arrived, a neighbor reported smoke in a lower-level apartment; it was uncertain if the unit was occupied. Chief 1 took command and requested a third alarm assignment since a first and second alarm were already assigned to the other incident. Chief 1 confirmed there was visible smoke coming from the apartment. Chief 1 and Chief 3 made the decision to force-entry and conduct a primary search for any occupants. Upon making entry, an engine from West Metro Fire District arrived and stretched a hose line and provided back-up to Chief 3 for a search. A small fire was in the kitchen area and it was contained. The apartment was ventilated. It was determined that the apartment was unoccupied. The fire is currently under investigation by the Brooklyn Park Fire Marshal Division.

Plymouth, West Metro, Coon Rapids, and Osseo Fire Departments were also assigned to this incident. The Brooklyn Park Police Department and North Memorial EMS assisted.
