"A" Shift was paged to a possible lawn mower on fire behind a residence on the 6400 block of Edgewood.
Battallion Chief 1, Engine 22, and Rescue 31 responded and arrived on scene to find a well involved deck fire extending into the house with the help of propane tank. Rescue 41 diverted to the scene. A Brooklyn Park "All Call" and 2nd Alarm brought in additional companies to the scene. Plymouth, West Metro, Maple Grove, and Brooklyn Center responded to the scene. Fridley covered at Brooklyn Park Central Station.
Engine 22 laid a 2" 1/2 Blitz Fire to the rear of the structure. Initial crews transitioned to an interior attack after knocking down the bulk of the exterior fire. Crews were met with high heat and fire from both floors of the split level entry after making entry. Fire had spread into the attic, kitchen/living room, and basement. Initial crews knocked down the bulk of the fire and prevented it from spreading to the rest of the house.
Plymouth laddered the roof and coducted verticle ventilation. An additional 2" 1/2 with a 1" 3/4 bundle was brought to the "charlie" side to knock down some fire from the rear. Multiple crews conducted extensive overhaul due to the excessive fire load in the home. Crews remained on scene for roughly three hours. No injuries were reported and nobody was home at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The incident attracted media attention.
