    Updated On: Apr 04, 2018

03/29/2018 - "B" Shift was dispatched to reports of a possible house fire on the 9700 block of Almond Ave N at 0700 hours. Being that this was at shift change, initial alarm assignment included 11 firefighters which is almost double what normally responds. Initial alarm assignment included Chief 1, Battalion Chiefs 1 and 3, Captain 41, Engine 11, 31, and 41 with auto-aid from Fridley with a ladder truck. Battalion Chief 3 arrived to find a 2 story residence with a working house fire. Reports were that there was a fire in the basement bedroom. A 360 performed displayed fire venting through a window in the Bravo-Charlie corner. A second alarm was struck on the fire bringing in West Metro Fire, Coon Rapids, Brooklyn Center, and Plymouth to stand by at the central station.

Engine 41 arrived and tagged a hydrant while Engine 11's crew made initial entry through the garage. Crews were met with heavy smoke and high heat. Crews were unable to locate the basement door due to configuration of the house. Initial crews backed out due to worsening conditions. A crew was sent to the charlie side window well to make an exterior knock on the fire while crews re-entered through the front door. Crews still had trouble finding the basement stairs, but finally located them and continued to extinguish the fire. The fire was contained to the basement bedroom/bathroom area and all residents and animals were accounted for. Crews conducted extensive overhaul and all fire fighters made it home safe. Units cleared the scene around 1000 hours.

3/26/2018 - "A" Shift was dispatched to reported smoke in a kitchen on the 7000 block of Janell Ave N around 2030 hours. Initial alarm assignment included Battalion Chief 1, Engine 11, and Rescue 31. Rescue 31 arrived to find a single story residence with nothing showing. Upon doing a 360, Rescue 31 updated that there was smoke and fire on the charlie side of the structure and requested to fill out the box. This brought in Chief 1 and Engine 41 along with auto aid from West Metro Fire. Crews made an offensive attack on the kitchen fire and got a quick knock on it. The fire was contained to the kitchen. All residents made it out of the house and no firefighters were injuried. Crews cleared the scene around 2230 hours.
